Torqued Headline Of The Day Award Goes To.......

(drumroll) CTV, for this gem of the story not reflecting the title:Harper cabinet unleashes flood of patronage.

Seeing that headline I was thinking that the PM had just pulled a Chretien in naming hundreds of people with close ties to himself and the party to plum patronage jobs. A quick read turns up this: At least 20 of the 111 appointments made Aug. 4 went to identifiable federal and provincial Conservative donors and supporters. So roughly 18% of the appointments made had some type of ties to the Conservative party. I assume CTV thinks the PM should have avoided naming anyone who could be tied to the party. Actually I think the PM deserves credit for keeping that number so low. Perhaps someone should tell CTV to google the definition of patronage.

I just can't help but wonder what percentage of appointments made by previous Liberal governments would be. I'm guessing something closer to 99.9999999.

There is no pleasing the MSM in this country. Who was PM Harper supposed to appoint - CUPE leadership, Toronto city councilors, Ms. May, editorial staff/reporters from the Toronto Star, Liberal Association members of downtown Toronto or perhaps my local homeless guy? Get a grip and growup. I didn't notice this whining and sniveling when the Liberals used to reward their supporters to these positions. At least PM Harper's appointees are qualified. Cheers. Bring out the tissues and wipe your envious green eyes. Tears of rage. Fern St Albert

Sounds like nobody at CTV got an award.

Not only is the bar set higher for everything Harper does, sometimes, as here, it's set ridiculously high. And again, there is no comparison to anything done by previous govt's.

Anyway, we just have to soldier on, and get out the counter-spin as best we can.

HARPER promised he would never do this. He is a flip-flopping liar. What does he stand for?

20 out of 111 anon. Do the math!!!

He is actually about 20 short to have the same ratio of conservatives as in the general population (according to polls).

What's Harper got against conservatives?

How many of those 20 new appointments replaced liberal appointees.

Mary T All of them I hope.
Anon 3:18..your LIEberals have had over two years to help out with senate reform but chose to block it. And BTW LIEberals are the last people in this country who can say anything about a flip flopping liar.

Did you notice how fast they shut down the comments section on that "story" after most of the people who wrote in said they thought the story was ridiculous and why?

Yeah, me too. :D

Yep, that's how the media portray canadians as idiots.

Oh Hunter and Paul, senator Pamela Wallin plans to step down to run as a mp for senatorship that is, if sask does legistrate a senator election like it was done in Alberta.
Which means, the PM is reforming the senate.
And remember when alberta chose their senator but Paul Martin picked another guy instead.
So, both of you, look into the reform deal the prime minister has made with his senators that they are to step down the momenmt their province chooses to elect their senator.

The liberals appointed their senators and have been there for the past humpeen years. lets see who they are.
