Conservative Government Will Be Forced To Change F-35 Costs Again Tommorrow

Looks like the Conservative government will again have to adjust the life-cycle costs of the F-35 purchase. Opposition parties are set to pounce on Defence Minister Peter Mackay over new revelations the government never told Canadains about all the costs associated with the F-35 program.

In another embarrassing example of the government not reporting the numbers accurately, it was learned today by the Canadian Press that the government failed to include the costs of batteries used in television and dvd player remotes used in the training classrooms by DND.

This new revelation will bump the "life-cycle costs" of the F-35 up another $113.69 over the next 30 years. Bob Rae is said to be seething that the government hid the cost of these AA batteries from Canadians, and will again demand the PM resign.

Newly elected NDP leader Thomas Mulclair is rumoured to announce a news conference in the morning, issuing a scathing rebuttal of the government as it turns out the batteries will be purchased by DND outside the province of Quebec, and will claim it is further proof of the PM's divisive style of governing.

48 weeks of 'lazy ppg sewer-gates' for a democratically elected Conservative govt. That's not counting the, to numerous to count bags of mindless garbage from the Minority years.

Thanks for doing their job, Paul. I would expect a few hundred stories before the sun rises.

What are you dishing them for next week? You only have 4.5 days before Monday....;)

why aren't the conservatives telling the ag that you don't put the costs of what machanic and the cost of fuel and the cost of pilots in to the fray. shiela fraser neve asked the Liberals the cost oof captains. or the cost of fuel prices when the liberals bought the sinking burning submarines. it is so stupid the conservatives should not change it and tell the auditer generel that he is missunderstood on this issue. and that the cost of the f35s is the rite one ask the auditor genereal how much it cost him and his group of people to do these auditing ask the auditor genereal if they costed in the amount his or her veichle is with gas pricese or with just the price of the weichle alone and ask if they costed in the price of the peoples wages that made the veichle. then I am sure he will change his mind and I don't understand why sunnews who I normally agree with hasn't figured this out.

After reading Andrew Coyne's (yesterday) article, I now agree the minister should resign.

The key data point that makes the difference for me is that I didn't know that Sheila Frasers' audit result for 'copters in 2010, while MacKay was Defense Minister, clearly stated the need for disclosure including all operating costs, and the DoD - meaning MacKay - promised at that time to follow all her recommendations (just like they now are saying).

So MacKay, via either incompetence or intent, did fail to meet his auditor-general commits. He at least caused deception (even if not intentionally, but it might have been intentional too), and that's enough for me to not want him to continue with Ministerial powers.

I am disappointed, I think Conservative Party supporters need to recognize this for what it is and call for MacKay to go.

Damn.

I've tuned out the F35 debate a long time ago. We're a big country, if we can afford luxuries like a million+ public service employees, public health-care, nanny-statism growing out of our gazoos, then surely we can afford some new state-of-the art equipment for our armed forces. Our country is big, but many of it's members are small, petty, and back-woods ... at least in my humble opinion.
