The sponsorship scandal, "AdScam", "Sponsorship"or Sponsorgate, is a scandal that came as a result of a Canadian federal government "sponsorship program" in the province of Quebec and involving the Liberal Party of Canada, which was in power from 1993 to 2006. The program was originally established as an effort to raise awareness of the Government of Canada's contributions to Quebec industries and other activities in order to counter the actions of the Parti Québécois government of the province that worked to promote Quebec independence.
The program ran from 1996 until 2004, when broad corruption was discovered in its operations and the program was discontinued. Illicit and even illegal activities within the administration of the program were revealed, involving misuse and misdirection of public funds intended for government advertising in Quebec. Such misdirections included sponsorship money awarded to ad firms in return for little or no work, which firms maintained Liberal organizers or fundraisers on their payrolls or donated back part of the money to the Liberal Party. The resulting investigations and scandal affected the Liberal Party of Canada and the then government of Prime Minister Paul Martin. It was an ongoing affair for years, but rose to national prominence in early 2004 after the program was examined by Sheila Fraser, the federal auditor general. Her revelations led to the government establishing the Gomery Commission to conduct a public inquiry and file a report on the matter.
In the national spotlight, the scandal became a significant factor in the lead-up to the 2006 federal election where after more than twelve years in power the Liberals were defeated by the Conservatives, who formed a minority government that was sworn in February 2006.
And for sixteen years the CBC kept the sponsorship scandal news to a bare minimun.
ReplyDeleteThis shows how much the media care and stand by their 'corrupt' LPOC.
Even today, when bits and pieces of the 'sponsorship scandal is surfacing; the National media do their very best not to discuss the new update story.
How many times have we heard about CORBEIL new story implicating CHRETIEN , PAUL MARTIN and few other other than when it first was made headlines just a few daya ago.
And rather than discuss the new story of Corbeil's the media focuses on frivolous nonsense regarding to the PM stretching the story to the point it become world news. when in truth it is nothing but a cover-up to the LPOC's own corruption.
Bottom line is, the NATIONAL SING SONG MEDIA work for the LPOC only.

Today WK celebrates long lost victories. On this same date, the nation celebrates the exposure of thieves. Expectantly waiting for further revelations.

Sponsorship scam story of RCMP mole/ whistle blower and his "betrayal" of his liberal friends, as the reporter and headline writers phrase it.
Interesting sidenote here: said paid informer, is now in the RCMP Witness Protection Program.
D'ya think he might have some serious concerns for his safety? Must be that he's afraid of the libranos and all those other ferocious thugs like Mike "da Messer," or John "da Strangler," or the "ass Kicker" War-room "Volunteer."
You are so right Jen. Notice the time the MSM talking heads starting talking about the PM not listening to their drivel? Yup, same time Adscam comes back.
ReplyDeleteDiversion, friends, diversion. They want to avoid the Corbeil story as much as possible. Reminds voters of why the Liberals, the MSM's favorite party is no longer in office.
Well said Jen (above). The litmus test for the CBC and its bias is how they have avoided covering adscam, or asking Ignatieff one single pointed question. The CBC is corrupt to the core, and a new coat of paint will make no difference. It's garbage.
ReplyDeleteAdscammer fall guy Corbiel now begs the court to let him go back to his ol life and leave him alone. If it wasn´t for reporter Daniel Leblanc we likely would know nothing about the Liberal Party mega-corruption. $45 Million in brown paper bag payoffs still unaccounted for and all most reporters still do is guffaw giggle phooey on their Blackberries doing sodukos or writing stories that reveal our PM doesn´t watch Cdn news. Oh the salivating that crossed all their pathetic lips.....maybe he watches Fox. So very deep or more likely despicable.
