It appears Susan Delacourt, politics journalist for the Toronto Star, has been afflicted with a severe case of SLML. For those of you unaware, SLML is a disease that affects thousands of Canadian's. SLML, which stands for Selective Liberal Memory Loss, so far seems to have been contained to members of the msm here in Canada. For anyone still a little confused, here is Susan's latest blog entry: http://thestar.blogs.com/politics/2009/05/no-politics-here.html
For the last few days, Delacourt has jumped on the Don Martin bandwagon, dismissing the allegations against Ruby Dhalla, and speculating on those bad Conservative members, most notably Jason Kenney, being the real culprit behind NannyGate. One line in Delacourt's blog posting instantly let me know she had a chronic case of SLML:
"Is there anyone out there who can clarify for me what the rules are surrounding the extent to which ministers can get involved in individual cases? Let alone committee meetings? Because I honestly am a bit perplexed".
Apparently she can't remember Liberal's demanding a minister intervene on an individual case for a guy named Karlheinz Schreiber. And by coincidence, the reason they wanted his deportation stopped was so he could appear before a committee. Then there's that whole Judy Sgro/Romainian Stripper thingy.
And just a few months ago, we were told that the coalition would also act on individual cases:
"A Liberal-NDP coalition government will protect war resisters from deportation if it comes into power, MPs from both parties said Wednesday.
Liberal MP Mario Silva and NDP MP Olivia Chow have said their parties are committed to preventing the deportation of American war resisters, five of whom are facing jail time if sent back to the U.S. in the next two weeks.". Of course if things start getting a little worrisome for the Conservative's, and they worry the nannies might have to face some tough questions which might make the government look bad, I would imagine they could just follow tradition and name them Ambassadors to Denmark.

If by some chance Delacourt reads this, I would be happy to provide more examples of Liberal's demanding the minister intervene in individual cases. Or if she desires I can provide examples of Liberal ministers getting involved in individual cases. Then again it appears she is in the final stages of SLML, and she would probably just forget anyways.
Update: Wilson has made an excellant point in the comments:
"Funny neither the media nor sweet Ruby has paraded even one former 'I Ruby Dhalla' employee infront of the cameras who will stand up for how kind, generous, caring and wonderful it is to work for 'I Ruby Dhalla."
Ms. Delacourt can say whatever she wants; she is not a journalist. She is an unabashed Liberal spokesperson who advances their talking points at every opportunity. Anyone that has the slightest knowledge of her work understands that. Since Liberals lie far more than they tell the truth, it is wise to assume whatever she writes falls into the first category rather than the later.
ReplyDeleteYou have to understand that the Toronto Star is actually the voice for the Liberal Party of Canada.
ReplyDeleteThere is no doubt in my mind that the Toronto Star went over the story with Iggy and Dhalla before they published it.
If you remember the first article about Dhalla, the Toronto Star said that she got cought up in a "nannytrap".
Now when you hear something like "nannytrap", the first thing you think of is that the nanny trapped somebody or the scheme was a "trap" that involved a nanny.
Either way there is a cover-up going on.
The Liberals will always believe in their god given right to govern our country. From this it is not a big leap to understand where Ms. Delacourt is coming from. What she meant to say was "can anyone explain to me why anyone dared publish a story that would undermine the natural governing party of Canada". The audacity! Liberal spin at it's best.

ReplyDeleteCurious eh.
ReplyDeleteAnd the 2 provincial ministers are getting hauled up on the carpet for not ''getting involved in individual cases''.
The media are mentally unstable over this one,
both federal and provincial Liberal players are being attacked...at the same time.
Funny neither the media nor sweet Ruby has paraded even one former 'I Ruby Dhalla' employee infront of the cameras
who will stand up for how kind, generous, caring and wonderful it is to work for 'I Ruby Dhalla.
Surely 'I Ruby Dhalla' has enough ex-employees that ONE would come to her defence!
Co-worker? Hairdresser? Drycleaner?
Come on, someone....defend poor Ruby?
